FAITH - The Shield of Faith

We have an arch enemy, who is Satan, and we should not be ignorant of his evil devices.

Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

When we first accepted Jesus in our hearts as our personal Lord and Savior, we automatically have been enlisted as a soldier for Christ.

2 Timothy 2:3-4 “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.”

All Kingdoms have an army, and it is no different with the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of Light is warring against the Kingdom of Darkness. A spiritual war.

At times the enemy will attack the individual and at other times he will attack the body of Christ.

To combat the Kingdom of darkness we have the Armor of God to withstand in the evil day. (Ephesians 6:13)

Ephesians 6:14-17 “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

The Armor of Defence:

  • Truth is the Belt – In order for the enemy to not touch us we must be walking in truth. The truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. When we believe lies and false doctrines our armor cannot protect us.

  • Righteousness is the Breastplate – The Breastplate covers our heart where the Kingdom of God resides, for the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. The Kingdom of Satan is in all lawlessness and those walking in lawlessness are not protected.

  • Feet Shod with the Preparation of Gospel of Peace – Our mandate to preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15) and to make disciples of all the nations (Matthew 28:19) our feet are fitted with shoes to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and the gospel of the Kingdom. Romans 10:15 “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”

  • Faith is our Shield – Believing in our hearts and confessing with our mouths we quench the fiery darts of the wicked one. Knowing that it is not us but the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through us.

  • Salvation is the Helmet – We are to put on salvation which is Jesus Christ. Jesus is always in the forefront of our minds/thoughts. (Romans 13:14) The helmet protects our minds/thought patterns.

The Armor of Offence:

  • Sword of the Spirit – We are on the offence speaking forth the word of God, with decrees and declarations directed by the Holy Spirit.

What are the fiery darts of the wicked one?

  • These are darts that attack the heart and the mind. Satan is attacking the Kingdom of Light and that Kingdom is in our hearts. Our adversary walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

  • Lies, accusations, anything he can get his hook into our hearts and minds to have us sin and be devoured.

How do we quench the fiery darts of the wicked one?

  • When the fiery darts are coming against our minds/thoughts.

    • Declare: I cast down all imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. I bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5) You need to purposefully start thinking on something else.

  • When the fiery darts are coming against us affecting our hearts.

    • Declare: No weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue which rises up against me in judgment I shall condemn. (Isaiah 54:17)

These are scriptures which I use to combat the enemy. You may have your own to combat.

Each piece is needed of the body armor to wage a good warfare. Faith is involved in each piece when we look at them according to our foundational scripture and what we have already discussed. Just like when we first believe, salvation, health and healing and deliverance is ours, so are we immediately thrust into a spiritual battle.

  • Truth is the Belt - The Word.

  • The Breastplate – Righteousness

  • Feet Shod with the Gospel of Peace – (The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy)

  • Shield – Faith

  • Helmet – Salvation

The Lord is our Commander and Chief. Through the power that works in us we wage the good warfare.
