It is interesting to note the parallels between the Levites and the Levitical cities that were appointed during the allotment of land to the Israelites in the land of Cannan and what the Lord is building today throughout the earth.

Now behold, I Myself have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the children of Israel. Therefore the Levites shall be Mine, because all the firstborn are Mine. On the day that I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast. They shall be Mine: I am the Lord. (Numbers 3:12-13)

The Levites were chosen of the tribes of Israel and given to Aaron the priest to assist him. (Numbers 3:1-9)

     Today: The church the Ekklesia (The Called Out Ones) serving Jesus, our High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek.           (Hebrews 5:9-10)

The Levites were declared the Lord’s firstborn.  

     Today: The church is the firstborn (Hebrews 12:23)

Command the children of Israel that they give the Levites cities to dwell in from the inheritance of their possession, and you shall also give the Levites common land around the cities. (Numbers 35:2)

These cities were scattered throughout the land of Israel according to the prophecy spoken in Genesis 49:5-7.

     Today: The Lord is building Cities of Refuge scattered throughout the earth.

The common land of the cities which you will give the Levites shall extend from the wall of the city outward a thousand cubits all around… The city shall be in the middle. (Numbers 35:4-5)

​

Common land was used for their cattle, herds, and all their animals. (Numbers 35:3)

Common land is land ownership that is equally shared by the Levites, dwelling together in unity.

     Today: The Lord is bringing His Ekklesia together in unity according to (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)

The city is in the middle (Hub) with the common land measured equally all around the city (Numbers 35:5)

     Today: The Cities of Refuge is the Hub networking with churches from many streams.

Note both the Levitical Cities and Cities of Refuge the Lord is building today are in the shape of a wheel.

Now among the cities which you will give to the Levites you shall appoint six cities of refuge, to which a manslayer may flee. And to these you shall add forty-two cities. So all the cities you will give to the Levites shall be forty-eight, these you shall give with their common-land. (Numbers 35:6-7)

​

The six cities of refuge are for the children of Israel, for the stranger, and the sojourner, that anyone who kills a person accidentally may flee there.

     Today: The Lord is moving upon the hearts of individuals to move into cities declared cites of refuge among the nations.               Places of His Presence – Jehovah Shammah – THE LORD IS THERE – (Ezekiel 48:35)

     The Lord is our Refuge (Psalm 46:1)

It was the responsibility of the congregation to judge between the manslayer and the avenger of blood. (Numbers 35:24)

     Today: Places of refuge are places of Governmental authority to administrate the Kingdom. The Kingdom of light against the         Kingdom of darkness.

The Levites responsibilities were:

Travelling throughout all the cities of Judah and instructing the people in the law.

(Deuteronomy 33:10, 2 Chronicles 17:9)

     Today: The City (The Hub, networking with churches) is the Equipping Center according to Ephesians 4:11-16

The Levites were priests in the service of the tabernacle.

     Today: We the Church are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people. (1Peter 2:9)

Musicians, Gatekeepers, Officers, Judges and Craftsmen. (1 Chronicles 23:4-5, Nehemiah 3:17)

Craftsmen: The Levites were part of rebuilding the wall and the gates in Jerusalem. (Nehemiah 3)

     Today: The Church is building up the old waste places, raising up foundations of many generations, repairing breaches, and           restoring streets to dwell in. (Isaiah 58:12) The restoration of the Body of Christ, The City, in Unity of the spirit in the bond of           peace.

Gatekeepers: as part of their service was to keep watch from outside invaders not allowing enemy forces to infiltrate.

     Today: The church stands guard at the spiritual city gates warring not against flesh and blood but against principalities,                 against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The warrior bride.

Musicians: The Levites were instructed to minister with music in the tabernacle and later in the temple. The singers, heads        of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, lodged in the chambers, and they were free from other duties, for they were employed        in that work day and night. (1 Chronicles 9:33)

     Today: The restoring of 24/7 prayer and worship. Hosting the presence of the Lord.
