FAITH - The Heart

Exodus 24:12 “Then the Lord said to Moses, come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.”

  • The law given to Moses on Mount Sinai was written on stones.

Hebrews 10:16-17 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds, I will write them, then He adds, their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

  • The law has now been put into our hearts and written in our minds.

Read 2 Corinthians 3:7-11

  • The law written on stone was a ministry of condemnation which glory was passing away.

  • The law written on our hearts is the ministry of righteousness, a glory that excels and remains.

Read Galatians 3:10-25

  • Those under the works of the law are under the curse, for the law is not of faith.

  • Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law having become a curse for us.

  • The blessing of Abraham has come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

  • The inheritance was not through the law but was through the promise given to Abraham.

  • The law was a tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Read Matthew 5:21-22

  • “You shall not murder “

  • Anger without cause is likened to murder.

  • Where does anger come from? - The Heart.

  • Where is the law written now? – On Our Hearts.

  • Whoever is angry against a brother has committed murder in their heart.

Read Matthew 5: 27-30

  • “You shall not commit adultery”

  • Lusting after a man or woman is likened to adultery.

  • Where does lust come from? – The Heart.

  • Where is the law written now? – On Our Hearts.

  • The one who has lusted after another has committed adultery in their heart.

Read Matthew 15:10-11

Read Matthew 15:16-20

  • What goes into the mouth does not defile a man.

  • What comes out of the mouth defiles a man.

  • Those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart and defile a man.

  • Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.  – All of these things are against the law of God.

  • What defiles a man is lawlessness, and this lawlessness is in the heart.

Defile – Greek – Koinoo - to make (or consider) profane (ceremonially): - call common, defile, pollute, unclean.

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

Pure – Greek – Katharos - Of uncertain affinity; clean (literally or figuratively): - clean, clear, pure.

The Kingdom of God is in our Hearts

The Kingdom of God is in all righteousness, peace and joy.

Righteousness is of the heart.

The just shall live by faith.

Faith is of the heart; therefore, our hearts need to be pure.


Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”


  • Pray Psalm 139:23-24 and wait upon the Holy Spirit for conviction of any sin.

  • Read Matthew 5:1-12 – “The Beatitudes” and seek the Holy Spirit for where you fall short.

    • Are you merciful?

    • Are you a peacemaker?

    • Do you hunger and thirst for righteousness?

  • Pray concerning any unforgiveness. For if we do not forgive a brother their sins, the Lord will not forgive us. Matthew 18:21-35

  • Pray repenting of sins and asking the Lord for forgiveness and thanking the Lord that the blood of Jesus covers your sin.
